Simplewallet uses a so called command line interface(CLI). It was created by Ludwig Zamenhof in 1887. Zamenhof was aiming to create an easy to learn language with a global scope, hoping to make the world a better place by allowing people to communicate on a common basis. The esperanto lexicon and grammar is a mixture of various natural languages. The term "monero" is derived from Esperanto translating to "coin".

The monero cryptocurrency doesn't inherit any kind of centralized decision-making institution. In opposition to something like a central bank for fiat currencies, the authority in monero relies on a consensus(mp link) model.

The birth of monero for instance was a fork from Bytecoin in 2014. In cryptocurrency terminology there are essentially two types of possible forks, so called softforks and hardforks. Both type of forks are changes to the protocol, but they're different in scope. While softforks are forward compatible, hardforks are not. The next planned hardfork for monero is scheduled to be the ???? release.
